Bear Garlic
Allium ursinum (Liliaceae)

Large plant with emerging flowers, with one fully unfolded flower head. Flower clusters grow on seperate stalks.

Main photo: complete plant with imature flower head. The base of the plant forms a narrow bulb which is partly below the soil level. Here the soil has been removed to also show the root proper.
Insert top: flower cluster
Insert bottom: smooth leaf with faint garlic or onion smell and flavour. This distinguishes it from the poisonous Lily-of-the-valley with similar leaves.
